President’s Message
To the Nelson Minor Hockey Community;
On behalf of NMHA I would like to congratulate Isaac MacLeod on being drafted 136th overall to the San Jose Sharks. Isaac is a product of NMHA and will be attending university this fall where he received a four year scholarship to Boston College. NMHA would like to wish him the best and we hope to see him drawing a jersey for the Sharks in the near future!
With the 2010/2011 season just around the corner, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the past Board Members and welcome the new Board Members to our team. Thank you to all of our coaches, managers, and trainers and to all of the volunteers that put in countless hours to make hockey in our community such a great success.
This is my second year as President and again, I invite you all to bring forward your thoughts and ideas on how NMHA can continue to provide a positive experience for our Minor Hockey Players.
Let’s have a great year and always remember who we are out there for.
Yours in hockey,
Tony Maida
Hockey Gear Loan Program
Having all the equipment for the first practice is important for your child. If you are considering an equipment loan through NMHA program please contact Grant Anderson before September 15th to ensure that you are ready for the first practice. NMHA has several sets of equipment available for first year players. This program is designed to reduce the costs of entry into the sport. We do require a post dated cheque for $100 to be given to NMHA at the time of your loan to help recover replacement costs should the equipment not be returned. Families wishing to participate in this program can apply for the equipment by contact Grant Anderson at (250)352-0181.
Fees and Registration
If you were previously registered in NMHA, the registration form will be mailed to you. If you have not previously had a child registered then a registration form will be available to you on our website. All registrations should be completed and mailed to the address listed above.

Registration fees are the same as last seasons with the exception of Goalie fees. NMHA has increased these fees by $100 to cover Goalie Development Clinics and extra ice time.
* Only half of the registration fee may be post-dated no later than December 31, 2010. Those wishing to make other arrangements may call our Registrar, Megan Little.
Tryout fees must be paid before the player goes on the ice.
KidSport™ Nelson
We believe that no kid should be left on the sidelines and all should be given the opportunity to experience the positive benefits of organized sports. KidSportâ„¢ Nelson provides support to children in order to remove financial barriers that prevent them from playing organized sport.
Since its inception in 2007, KidSport™ Nelson has supported 140 athletes, between the ages of 6 to 18 years of age, to participate in local sport organizations which are members of Sport BC. In addition to offsetting registration fees to a total of $200 per year, KidSport™ Nelson provides hockey equipment through the support of the NHL Players Association program.
KidSport™ Nelson receives ongoing support from many local organizations “So ALL Kids Can Play!”
Applications are available at the Nelson Minor Hockey Association, the Nelson Regional Sport Council Office or online at nelsonsports.ca/kidsport.
COACHES
Every coach and assistant coach must complete a coach application form. Last year we notified all coaches that we would be requesting criminal records checks. No application to coach will be complete without this important step. These checks are free of charge for any volunteer. If you live within Nelson city limits, please call the Nelson City Police and arrange to have this done. If you live outside Nelson, please contact the RCMP. These reports do not give any details to our association, they simply give us clearance for you to coach.
